About

Assist Sheffield helps destitute asylum seekers by providing accommodation, advice and other support to those in most need or distress.

The charity can help in the following ways:

  • Providing a night shelter in a local church hall
  • Arranging temporary accommodation in one of their houses or with host families
  • Providing small weekly welfare payments for things like food
  • Providing bus passes which clients can use to attend medical, legal and Home Office appointments
  • Helping people access other sources of help, including other charities, Food Banks (they sometimes provide Food Bank vouchers) and the Mulberry Health Clinic.

Asylum seekers can make contact with Assist Sheffield by going to the charity’s help desk during the drop-in at Victoria Hall (use the main church entrance on Norfolk Street, opposite the Crucible Theatre) on a Wednesday afternoon between 1pm and 3pm. So Assist Sheffield can help in the best way possible, they ask asylum seekers to bring papers and documents to provide evidence of their status. The help desk is often very busy so please be aware that you may need to wait in a queue.

Assist Sheffield have a number of roles for volunteers, see their website for more information.
