The Yorkshire and Humber 18-25 Deaf Mental Health Assessment Service is a free NHS service. It is currently a 2 year pilot which started in September 2024.

They are there to provide assessments around:

  • Autism
  • ADHD
  • Language deprivation
  • Emotional/Behavioural needs

It is for deaf adults aged 18-25, who have a hearing status of severely or profoundly deaf, a BSL user or significant issues with language.

Please note that the Deaf Mental Health Assessment Service is for assessment only. This means they can’t offer ongoing support, medication or intervention. They will sign post you to the right place for these things.

Referrals need to come from a professional. This includes:

  • GP
  • Teacher/College staff/Teacher of Deaf Children
  • Social Workers
  • Other health professionals – e.g. from Audiology

The teram are happy to discuss any issues or potential referrals, so contact them before completing the referral form if you need to.
