Sheffield Talking Therapies (formerly known as Improving Access to Psychological Therapies (IAPT)) is an NHS service. It provides free psychological therapies for adults suffering from mild to moderate depression and anxiety or stress.
They offer a range of support that’s designed to give you the skills and confidence to overcome stress, anxiety and depression.
To access any of the Sheffield Talking Therapies services you can get a referral from your GP, phone them on 0114 226 4380 or fill in a referral form on their website. They will then arrange for you to have a short assessment to agree the best support option for you.
Courses
They offer a range of free courses that have all been specially designed to help with any stress, worry or anxiety you are experiencing. The courses are online, usually last a few weeks and run regularly throughout the year.
Health and Wellbeing Service
They work with people who are living with a long-term physical health condition which contributes to experiencing stress, anxiety and low mood.
Examples of the long-term conditions supported include: musculoskeletal issues and chronic pain; fatigue; diabetes; health anxiety; heart conditions; irritable bowel syndrome (IBS); long COVID; respiratory conditions; skin conditions; beyond cancer (following successful treatment); tinnitus.
The courses do not provide medical treatment for your physical health, but they will discuss how your physical health impacts on your wellbeing and vice versa.
More details of how this works and what is on offer is on their website.
Talking Therapies
In addition to the courses Sheffield Talking Therapies can also offer one-to-one talking therapies. This is provided by their team of Psychological Wellbeing Practitioners, Cognitive Behavioural Therapists and Counsellors.
You can also access an online Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT) programme called SilverCloud. This gives you the opportunity to complete therapy in your own time and pace. It involves completing online guided self-help modules with a fortnightly online review with one of their therapists.
Self-Help
You can also access self-help resources. Resources include self-help guides (in both leaflet and audio), suggested apps and signposting to other helpful organisations.
Other Services
Employers can be provided with a free wellbeing session that is tailored to meet the needs of your employees. They can discuss all the different options available and how they can best suit your needs.
