SANE is a national charity aiming to improve the quality of life for people affected by mental illness.
They have a range of support and resources for people aged 16 and over:
- SANEline is their national out-of-hours mental health helpline. This offers emotional support, guidance and information to anyone affected by mental illness, including family, friends and carers. You can usually call every day of the year 4pm – 10pm T: 0300 304 7000. If you want a call-back you can leave a message on 0300 124 7900 giving your first name and phone number, and they’ll call you back within a few days.
- Email support: Email support is available for anyone who feels more comfortable writing down how they are feeling, or what support they would like. E: [email protected] They aim to respond within 72 hours.
- Textcare: This service provides bespoke one-way messages directly to your mobile phone. You can set it up to provide emotional support and connection at the times you need it most. You need to submit any request a minimum of 72 hours in advance. Please note that this is not a crisis service.
- Support Forum: If you become a member (this is free, for 18+ and can be anonymous) you can access the Support Forum which the SANE online community and is a safe space to offer support, ideas and share experiences. The forum is available 24 hours a day.
SANE also run campaigns and provide the latest information on treatments and mental health legislation.
