Citizens Advice Sheffield (CAB) provides free, confidential and independent advice and advocacy on a wide range of topics. These include welfare benefits, tax credits, Universal Credit, debt, housing, family issues, relationship breakdown, your rights, employment and immigration. Citizens Advice is part of the national CAB network.
You can call their Advice line between 10am – 4pm (Mon-Fri) on 0808 278 7820.
There have advice centres which you can drop in on across Sheffield, or you can check their website for other ways to get in touch.
There is also plenty of self-help advice to explore on their website.
Sheffield Law Centre:
Sheffield Law Centre is also part of Citizens Advice Sheffield and you can access the service by phoning Sheffield CAB advice line or by going to one of the drop-in services. They offer advice and representation in the areas of law including: Housing; Employment; Discrimination and Equality (discrimination covers acts of unlawful discrimination by providers of services as well as by employers); Public law (public law covers challenges to the acts and failures of public authorities, including cases of judicial review).
Please note, the Law Centre does not advise landlords, employers or service providers. It does not support people outside of Sheffield.
Deaf Advice Team:
Citizens Advice Sheffield provides specific services tailored for the Deaf community through the Deaf Advice Team: website. This team offers assistance on welfare rights, housing, employment, debt, and other issues, using both English and British Sign Language (BSL) to accommodate communication needs. They aim to ensure that Deaf and hard-of-hearing people, along with their families, have access to support tailored to their circumstances.
Nationally, the CAB also run a Universal Credit ‘Help to Claim Line’. It’s free, independent and confidential and provides advice from the early stages of a Universal Credit claim, from the application, through to your first payment. Tel: 0800 144 8444 (Mon – Fri, 8am – 6pm).
