Family Hubs are provided by Sheffield City Council and are accessible, welcoming, and warm spaces. They deliver activities for children aged 0-5 and offer help, signposting, and support to parents/carers of children aged 0-19, or up to 25 for those with special educational needs and disabilities.

There are 7 Family Hubs in Sheffield which, together with community venues, outreach sites and network centres, cover all areas of Sheffield. You can find your closest one on their Family Hubs map.

Family Hubs can help you with:

  • free activities for children aged 0-5
  • a place to meet other parents and families
  • important Start for Life services
  • support with managing finances and getting back into work or training
  • early language and home learning activities and ideas for children under 5
  • signposting to services to support family health and wellbeing
  • parenting and domestic abuse support
  • one to one support which may be offered within the home

Activities and groups

There are a range of free regular activities. What’s on varies according to the needs of the local community but typically you can go to:

  • breastfeeding groups and drop ins – come along for support, information and advice around all aspects of breastfeeding. Also a great place to meet other new parents and their babies
  • baby groups – a fun and relaxing environment where you can explore and learn together with your baby
  • toddler groups – a fun and exciting environment for children and their families to learn explore and develop new skills together

These activities are a great way to meet other parents and families and enjoy spending time with your child.

In addition to the regular activities, they also offer a range of workshops or advice sessions which have a specific focus on supporting different aspects of family life and child development.

One to One support

As well as activities and groups, they have Early Years Prevention workers who can offer extra help for you and your family.

Prevention workers can visit you at home to support you with your children’s behaviour and with setting boundaries, with accessing support around children with additional needs and with access to housing and benefits advice.

If you feel your family could benefit from this, please contact them to discuss how they may be able to help you, or speak to your health care professional.
