South Yorkshire Housing Association (SYHA) is a charity providing homes and wellbeing support across the region. They currently own and manage over 6000 homes and offer specific housing projects aimed at people with varying support needs.

In order to find a home to rent through SYHA, you need to first register with the local authority you’d like to live in. SYHA do provide some housing that can be directly rented from them but these homes are available on a first come first served basis.

SYHA provide a wellbeing service that supports people to live well and feel settled in their homes. They offer different services depending on your needs. Here are some specific projects:

Over 50’s

SYHA offer different kinds of support to help people over 50 keep their independence, do things they love and feel safe and connected.

Mental Health Services

SYHA offer different levels of mental health support, whether that’s in your own home or through supported accommodation.

Learning Disabilities

SYHA provide supported accommodation for people with learning disabilities at Oak Close, a site near Rotherham. Here they are able to offer flexible and personalised support to enable people to live as independently as possible.

Through the Living Well partnership SYHA also work closely with SHSC so that local people who live in any kind of SYHA housing can access services within the safety and security of their own homes.

Homelessness

If you are homeless or at risk of becoming homeless, the first person you should contact is your local authority. In Sheffield this means contacting the Housing Solutions Team. SYHA provide specific services dependent on your circumstances and may be able to provide you with additional support if you are homeless/

Employment

SYHA run the Good Work project. This has it’s own page on the Guide.

They also run Working Win in partnership with the South Yorkshire Mayoral Combined Authority and local NHS partners.  It is a free service that supports people with health conditions to find work, and to stay in or return to employment. They provide one-to-one support to help you improve your wellbeing, meet your employment goals, and thrive in work. You’ll also get access to fast-track benefits, debt and housing advice.
