SODIT are a local peer led charity that provide a holistic/family centred perspective in dealing with depression & mental health distress. They provide support for women and those who identify as women, who have/had depression or related mental health distress and wish to move on.
Groups and Courses
SODIT provide regular groups such as :
- Survivor-led Peer Support Group: Tuesdays (12:30 – 2:30pm) and Thursdays (4:30 – 6:30pm)
- Creative Space for Women’s Wellbeing: runs fortnightly via Zoom on Mondays (1 – 2:30pm)
- Natural Connections: Tuesdays (10:30am-12:00pm)
- Body and Voice for Women’s Wellbeing: Thursdays (1:30 – 3:00pm) and Fridays (10:30am – 12:00pm)
They also run courses from time to time around areas such as Wellness Planning and Co-production. More details of when these run can be found on their website.
Counselling
SODIT provide free 1:1 counselling with both qualified counsellors and students. The use an integrated therapy approach.
Unfortunately, it is not always possible for 1:1 therapy to be immediately available due to the small size of the charity. They therefore offer “therapeutic holding” which can offer a valuable space for you to talk about how you are and how your mental health is whilst you await a counsellor. It is not therapy but it can be therapeutic to “clear your head” and to express your thoughts and feelings to someone who is listening without judgement.
