Wellbeing

It’s as important to look after both your mental and physical health. We all have our own level of mental health that is unique to us (sometimes this involves a diagnosis, sometimes it doesn’t). This can sometimes be called our ‘window of tolerance’ and it helps us to work out whether we feel well or not. In being aware of our mental health, it makes it easier for us to recognise what we need and all the different ways we can look after ourselves. This is often referred to as our wellbeing. Here at the Sheffield Mental Health Guide we provide signposting to services, organisations and how to find a therapist, but there are also plenty of small things you can do to take care of yourself. Here are 5 top tips to improve your wellbeing:

  1. Connecting with others
  2. Get busy and active
  3. Take notice and relax
  4. Give and share
  5. Learn something new

There are plenty of moments when our mental health can be impacted by what is happening in the world around us. As well as our support pages, our resource pages provide information and guidance on certain issues which may relate directly or indirectly to mental health.

We have also co-created MyToolkit with the community to complement the Sheffield Mental Health Guide website. Sign up to create your own confidential space to put together ideas, services, and activities that interest you and support your mental health.

If you’d like to explore what wellbeing may mean for you as well as a selection of useful links, tips and resources, click on the 5 top tips links above.

Our mental health and wellbeing co-exists with our physical health, so if you are feeling unwell or are engaging in activities that could harm you (like smoking) this can negatively effect your wellbeing. Take a look at NHS Live Well for help and information about your physical health, or support for quitting smoking.
